Voya Financial CFO Michael Smith Appointed to The Actuarial Foundation Board of Trustees

NEW YORK, March 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), announced today that Chief Financial Officer Michael Smith has joined the board of trustees for the Actuarial Foundation, a nonprofit organization with more than 20 years of history providing lifelong math education and financial literacy through its learning resources and scholarships.

As CFO and a member of Voya's executive committee, Smith is responsible for strategic finance, capital management, actuarial, tax, insurance investments, controllership, financial reporting, procurement, expense management, treasury and investor relations. Prior to becoming CFO, Smith served in several leadership positions at Voya including CEO of Insurance Solutions; chief risk officer (CRO); and CFO, CRO and CEO of Annuities. Since 2009, he has overseen Voya's legacy variable annuity business, which is now known as the Closed-Block Variable Annuity segment. Smith also serves on the board of directors of Voya Financial's charitable giving arm, Voya Foundation.

Smith is frequently sought out for his participation in industry events. He most recently participated in panels for the Society of Actuaries and the Global Insurance Symposium, and has also addressed actuarial students at the Fox School of Business at Temple University. Smith holds bachelor's degrees in economics and Russian studies from the University of Michigan and attained Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries in 1990. He is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and has been a CFA® Charterholder since 2003. Smith serves on the boards of LL Global, Inc., the parent organization of LIMRA and LOMA, as well as People's Light & Theatre Company.
