Voya Foundation Announces Second-Quarter 2015 Grant Recipients

Grants leverage relationships with local and national nonprofits to give back to communities across the U.S.

Jul 23, 2015

NEW YORK, July 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), announced today that five nonprofit organizations located throughout the country received grants in the second quarter of 2015 through the company's charitable giving arm, Voya Foundation. The Foundation's second-quarter funding leverages relationships with local and national nonprofit organizations who are dedicated to making a positive impact in the areas of children's literacy and financial education, as well as through employee engagement and disaster relief. Below is an overview of second-quarter 2015 grant recipients:

  • Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School (Atlanta) – Voya has expanded its support for Cristo Rey High Schools by funding the Corporate Work Study program at Cristo Rey High School Atlanta. The program — which will support some of Atlanta's most underserved students — offers a group of interns the opportunity to gain real-life work experience at Voya Financial's Atlanta office.
  • Arizona Council on Economic Education (Scottsdale, Arizona) – The Arizona Council's "Financial Fitness" program provides free financial literacy training and resources to students, teachers and parents in K–12 schools where there is a high percentage of students receiving free/reduced lunch and/or a significant Hispanic population. The program aims to help school-aged children become financially responsible and successful employees, parents, business owners and citizens.
  • Futures and Options (New York) – Voya will continue its support for the Futures and Options Internship Program, which gives determined, resilient high school students in New York City the chance to explore and realize futures and career paths they may not know are possible. Participating students — whose personal and economic challenges might limit their career possibilities — are provided training programs, mentoring and paid internships to help them develop the professional and interpersonal skills needed to succeed in school and in the workplace.
  • Junior Achievement USA (National) – This year, Voya will become lead sponsor of Junior Achievement's (JA) Thought Leadership Center, which will act as a national resource for educators, as well as JA volunteers and students, to lead and innovate in K–12 financial education. The grant also continues Voya's volunteer and financial support for financial education programming with JA affiliates in cities near major Voya sites across the country.
  • Captain Planet Foundation (National) – Voya has partnered with the Captain Planet Foundation in support of the organization's Small Grants and Eco Tech Grants programs. The Small Grants program funds classroom-level science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs in schools and education centers near major Voya sites across the country. The Eco Tech Grants program encourages educators to apply for funding to support cutting-edge scientific technologies to solve an environmental issue affecting their community.
  • AmeriCares (International) – Voya will continue its longstanding relationship with AmeriCares through the continuation of an annual grant that will fund emergency response efforts following a natural disaster. The grant also includes support for U.S.-based health clinics to support domestic health and Voya employee volunteerism.

Through charitable giving, Voya Foundation focuses on exemplary programs in the areas of financial education and children's education to help build an educated workforce. One of the Foundation's signature programs, the Voya-Girls Inc. Investment Challenge, provides high school girls with practical, hands-on investing experience, while allowing them to keep a portion of their gains in the form of college scholarships. At the core of Voya Foundation is the belief that education is the key to healthy communities, which foster the sustainability and growth of the economy.

As an industry leader and advocate for greater retirement readiness, Voya Financial is committed to delivering on its vision to be America's Retirement Company and its mission to make a secure financial future possible — one person, one family, one institution at a time.
