Voya Foundation Supports Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Great Futures Campaign

$100,000 grant supports national and local efforts, including scholarships for 30 high school students in NY, MN, GA

Jul 1, 2014

WINDSOR, Conn., July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), which has rebranded from ING U.S., announced today that it recently made a $100,000 contribution to Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) and its Great Futures Campaign.  Funds were provided through the company's charitable giving arm, the Voya Foundation.  The Great Futures Campaign is BGCA's initiative to mobilize the country to ensure great futures for America's youth by inspiring the next generation to be successful, healthy and engaged citizens.

A portion of Voya's grant funded scholarships for 30 high school juniors and seniors who are members at local Boys & Girls Clubs in New York, greater Atlanta and Minneapolis (10 in each market).  As part of this grant, these clubs received funding to support their programs and services for local children and teens.  These clubs are:

  • Edgies Teen Center, The Educational Alliance – New York, NY
  • East DeKalb Boys & Girls Club – Lithonia, GA
  • The Jerry Gamble Club – Minneapolis, MN

Scholarship recipients were selected based on grade point average, standardized test scores and completion of various college readiness tasks and courses related to job skills and financial responsibility.  In addition to funding programs at local Boys & Girls Clubs in markets where Voya maintains a large employee presence, a portion of the grant supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of America at a national level.  The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs aligns with the Voya Foundation's core values of children's education and financial literacy, and its focus on helping young people achieve their full potential.

"On behalf of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we're thrilled to have Voya's support for our mission and Great Futures Campaign," said Julie Teer, Senior Vice President of Resource Development, Boys & Girls Clubs of America.  "This grant allows Boys & Girls Clubs to provide even more young people with the support and resources they need to achieve great futures."

As an industry leader and advocate for greater retirement readiness, Voya Financial is committed to delivering on its vision to be America's Retirement Company and its mission to make a secure financial future possible — one person, one family, one institution at a time.
