ING U.S. Financial Services has named Daniel P. Mulheran president of its life insurance distribution organization. Mulheran, 57, previously served as executive vice president and head of the Independent General Agency distribution channel.

"Dan's career leadership experience in distribution makes him an ideal candidate to take over this critical role," said Butch Britton, president of ING's Life Business Group. "With a majority of Dan's career spent working at multiple levels in independent field distribution, he brings a keen insight and understanding for our three core distribution channels."

Before joining ING in 2002, Mulheran spent a majority of his career building an insurance and financial services practice, serving select customers. He was president and principal of Mulheran & Associates, Inc., from 1976 through 2002. He also served as a regional manager for Great West Life Assurance Company from 1981 through 1989, where he and his agency were recognized as the top region (1988) and for other industry honors. In 1993, he established an independent general agency and securities business known as Town & Country Financial LLC.

He is a member of AALU, NAIFA, NAILBA, and Society of Financial Services Professionals. He currently chairs the LIMRA brokerage committee and serves as the chairperson of the 2008 LIMRA Distribution Conference. He is the former president of the Minneapolis Life Underwriters Association, and a committee member to the National Association of Life Underwriters. As an individual producer, Mulheran was a multi-year member of the Million Dollar Roundtable (MDRT).

Mulheran earned a bachelors degree from California State University, Hayward, in 1976. He earned his Charter Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations from American College in 1979 and 1986, respectively.

In addition to his business activities, Mulheran is active with a variety of local and regional organizations, including as a director of Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest. He and his wife, Carol, live in Edina, Minnesota.
